Welcome to Volunteers Inititative Nepal ( VIN )
Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN), established in 2005 by a diverse group drawn from development workers, educationalists, social activists and other professionals, is a non-religious, non-political, non-for-profit, and non-governmental organization (NGO). VIN focuses on community-based projects involving local volunteers backed-up by international volunteers in Nepal.
Our mission is to empower marginalized communities through equitable, inclusive and holistic development programs.
There are four pillars in our developmental approach: Education, Health & Environment, Economy and Basic infrastructure development. These four pillars of development are supported by six major community empowerment programs namely Women’s Empowerment Program, Children’s Development Program, Youth Empowerment Program, Public Health & Medical Program, Environment Conservation Program and Disaster Risk Reduction Program. All VIN’s developmental and humanitarian programs are aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

VIN aims to empower women socially and economically through education, life skills and income generation opportunities. By 2030, VIN aims to benefit at least 80% of the total women in the marginalized communities of the target areas (Kavresthali, Nuwakot and Okhaldhunga).
Women’s Empowerment Projects
Children’s Development is a major programme of VIN’s approach to holistic and integrated community empowerment. This holistic approach follows the guiding principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989): the right to Survival, Protection, Development and Participation.
VIN promotes the rights of all children in the community by: providing access to quality education; developing their life-skills and creativity; providing access to basic health services. Gender equality is ensured through the implementing process.
Children’s Development Projects
Child Protection
Child Protection is a big issue in Nepal and internationally from long back. Violence come without boundaries in terms of class, caste, culture, language or ethnicity. However, is more frequent and persistent among the vulnerable communities.
Child Sponsorship Facilitation
Child Sponsorship Facilitation Project is designed to end the gap between a needy child and his/her means to education. The project has been addressing children’s educational and physical needs, as well as supporting their emotional development and promoting their self-esteem and self-worth.
Children’s Life Skills Facilitation
Children’s Life Skills Facilitation Project provides an opportunity and platform for children to explore their innate talents and promote social life skills and creativity. VIN facilitates the establishment of autonomous Children’s Clubs, providing active mechanisms to exercise and advocate children’s rights.
The Youth Empowerment Program has been intended to address the existing needs of Nepalese youth between 16 to 40 years in marginalized communities. Significant number of youth in Nepal are unemployed, many times this is due to skill mismatch. Awareness is the key to empowerment. Hence, VIN organises Career Development trainings to youth focusing on entrepreneurship. They are also provided with Life Skills session and English classes. Number of youth clubs are formed so as to develop their interpersonal skills and increase participation. Hence, by addressing their needs VIN improves their access to resources and information.
Youth Empowerment Projects
We envision healthy communities with people practicing hygiene and sanitation, healthy diet and lifestyles, people has access to quality health services and low incidence of infectious and non-infectious diseases through public health and medical care program.
Public Health & Medical Projects
Public Health
VIN’s public health project is dedicated to bridge the gap between marginalized communities and the level of public health awareness. Education and awareness is a major tool in bringing change in people’s mind-set.
Medical Care
VIN has been continuously working in marginalized and deprived areas of Nepal since 2005. We have been facilitating first-hand medical care with the help of our dedicated team and medical personness.
Health and Wellbeing
The project ensures that people are aware about what contributes to a healthy body and mind. Through the Health and Wellbeing Project, VIN provides alternative ideas to safeguard health, healthy social engagement, entertainment and activities like yoga, meditations, mindfulness exercises, arts, sports, dances, music, and much more.
After the devastating earthquake of 2015, the entire nation was left in irreparable grief, sorrow and deep scars in the economy and infrastructure. Realizing this fact, VIN held up and initiated disaster relief & recovery project to support the earthquake victim providing emergency relief in Nuwakot, Okhaldhunga and Kathmandu districts.
Disaster Risk Reduction Projects
VIN’s Environment and Conservation Program is designed to promote and protect the environment by raising awareness in the rural, underprivileged communities of Nepal, and by promoting sustainable agricultural, forestry, water and waste management practices. We promote agroforestry and permaculture so that farmers can preserve the forest resources and at the same time increase their production. We encourage every household in our community to segregate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste products, and to convert biodegradable waste into organic matter to be used in farming.
Environment & Conservation Projects
Agroforestry
The project is designed to ensure maximum benefit for the farmers by combining agriculture and forestry. By mixing trees or shrubs into their farming system, farmers can provide shade and shelter to protect plants, animals, and water resources, while also potentially generating additional income.
