Women Education and Life Skills

Current Situation

  • 1 in 4 women are enrolled in higher education.
  • 9 in 10 Dalit(lowest caste in Nepal) women are uneducated.
  • 8 in 10 women experience domestic violence.
  • 3 in 10 seats are reserved for women in Nepal’s Parliament.

The challenges faced by women in Nepal are entrenched in outdated socio-cultural practices. Particularly in rural and marginalized communities the girl child is groomed to undertake household activities at a young age, which deprives them of the opportunity to access quality education and participate in socio-economic and civic activities. Further, poverty exacerbates the situation by intensifying the fall in enrolment rate the girl child in schools and the increase in unpaid, and often unappreciated household labour.

There is relevant empirical data to verify dire state of Nepalese women in terms of health, education, participation, income generation, self-confidence, decision-making, access to policymaking and human rights.

Project Goal

The Women Education and Life Skill project empowers women to become self-reliant and resilient by providing them access to relevant education and skills development to help them participate on equal footing with men in all socio-cultural, economic, and civic activities in Nepal. The project contributes towards the SDG4 2030 by ensuring that women are provided with inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities. By 2030 we hope to help at least 80% of targeted women develop awareness of their rights and necessary life skills.
