Water Research & Management

Current Situation

Significant number of people in Nepal do not have access to clean and safe drinking water. Till todays dates, many children lose their lives to water-borne diseases life diarrhoea and dysentery. Soil erosion and floods continue to deplete the water resources in Nepal making them unfit for daily use. Factories, humans and their daily activities continue to pollute the water with chemical substances. Industry, agriculture and increasing population are all in competition for Nepal’s precious water resources. And yet, as people do not have any other sources of water continue to use the pollutes water on a daily basis. Likewise, there are no satisfactory preventive measures like public awareness and sanitation programs provided by government or the non-government sector in this regard.

Project Goal

VIN aims to identify overall water management issues. By 2030, we hope to ensure optimum utilization of water resource and management in the targeted areas

SDG 6 – the ‘water goal’ – is to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

Project Description

VIN’s Water Research Project deals with multiple facets of water pre-existing in various parts of Nepal. The project puts a major emphasis on conducting research on water related issues such as the availability of water throughout the year; competing uses, and potential conflict over water and waste-water and sanitation problems. The research result will help communities to learn if the water is drinkable. The project also advises communities on ways to recharge ground water.

As of 2020, VIN’s Water Research and Management Project has been able support 17,500 beneficiaries in marginalized communities of Nepal.
