Youth Entrepreneurship

Current Situation

  • 8 in 10 Nepali migrant workers are employed in Gulf countries.
  • 1,500 youths migrated abroad daily for better jobs.
  • 500,000 Nepali people are currently working in India.

Today, young people in Nepal are facing a major economic challenge. Lack of opportunities and poverty is pushing them towards mental health problems. Most of them go abroad and indulge in low-skilled and manual labour in mines and factories. And for those who cannot afford migrating abroad, agriculture has served as the last resort for unemployment. As for those young minds who luckily get employed, are often underpaid and overworked.

It has become increasingly important to address the issue of out-migration and unemployment in Nepal. While traditional jobs are popular are more convenient per say, Entrepreneurship for Youth could be a better and sustainable solution in today’s world.

Project Goal

VIN aims to ensure economic freedom of youth through entrepreneurship development activities. By 2030, we hope at least 30% of trained youth become entrepreneurs through functional learning centre in targeted communities.

SDG 4: Decent work and Economic Growth

Promoting development-oriented policies that support entrepreneurship could be one of the best solution in uplifting the status of youth in Nepal.

Project Description

Realize the current need of the youths and the country, Volunteer Initiative Nepal conducts workshop focusing on business development plans and management. Additionally, we provide specific income-generating trainings like plumbing, electric wiring, beautician, handicraft, organic farming, etc. These trainings are focused to youths in marginalized communities for their capacity building. Such trainings help the young people realize their potential and opt for entrepreneurial culture.

Youth involvement in entrepreneurship increases their potential giving economic independence. This enables them to ward off their inherited poverty. They create job opportunities guaranteeing economic growth of a nation.

Project Achievements

As of 2020, VIN’s Youth Entrepreneurship Project has been able to facilitate trainings and workshops for 28 youths in back warded communities of Nepal.
