Project Description
Introduction
Fostering women’s entrepreneurship is pivotal for economic growth and societal development in Nepal. The Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Nepal project aims to equip women with the skills and resources to establish and sustain their businesses, achieve economic independence, and contribute to community prosperity.
Background
Despite comprising 50.4% of Nepal’s population, women face significant barriers to economic participation. Limited access to finance, education, and entrepreneurial opportunities has hindered their economic empowerment. Notably, only 36% of women have access to financial resources, compared to 56% of men, creating substantial obstacles for aspiring female entrepreneurs.
Key Objectives
- Skill Development: Provide comprehensive entrepreneurship training tailored to the needs of local women.
- Financial Literacy: Enhance understanding of financial management and access to microcredit facilities.
- Mentorship Programs: Establish support networks connecting experienced entrepreneurs with novices.
- Market Access: Facilitate opportunities for women to effectively market their products and services.
Why Volunteer for Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Nepal Project?
The Need
Empowering women through entrepreneurship addresses critical socio-economic challenges. In Nepal, 52% of women-owned small businesses struggle to access finance, underscoring the necessity for targeted support.
Global Relevance
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. By supporting women’s entrepreneurship, volunteers contribute to global efforts promoting gender equality and economic development.
