Current Situation
- Nepal is the 4th most vulnerable country to the impacts of climate change
- Rainfall has significantly decreased at the rate of 3.2% per month per decade.
Climate change is the harsh reality of today’s world, and it is moving faster than we ever imagined. In Nepal, summers are getting hotter than before and winters are getting more and more dry every year. Monsoon is being pushed forward and spring is getting shorter. Flash floods and glacial outburst remain the most significant events. There are frequent occurrences of natural calamities like flood and landslide taking thousands of lives.
Nevertheless, we are continuously ignoring these red flags. Sometimes this is due to ignorance and many times due to lack of awareness. Henceforth, it has become more important today than ever to protect and promote our surrounding from personal level.
Project Goal
VIN aims to study the impact of climate change in farming and educate people about the impacts of climate change and possible solutions. By 2030, we hope at least 80% of the people are aware about the causes and effects of climate change
SDG 13 focuses on avoiding the worst impacts of climate change by controlling the greenhouse emission today and improving environmental awareness.
Project Description
The Climate Change Research Project is designed to investigate the impact of global warming and climate change. Climate Change has already begun to negatively affect the lives of a significant number of the population in Nepal. However, there has been very limited research done in the field of Climate Change and its impact. The issue is directly related to our holistic approach to community development. The project focuses on spreading awareness related to climate changes as well as accessing the impacts of climate change.
As of 2020, VIN’s Climate Change Research Project has been able to aware and educate 11,500 people in marginalized communities of Nepal.
