Childhood is the most important period in a person’s life as it is the time of learning and exploring. Within 5 years of age a child will have developed cognitive, emotional and social abilities upon which his/her future depends. Research show that children in a constructive environment grow healthier and have higher self-esteem.
In Nepal, minimal or no attention is given to Early Childhood Education. Due to poverty, scattered population, and absence of ECD centre, many children spend their early childhood at their homes. Furthermore, Nepal’s national education budget allocates less than 3% to pre-primary education, severely impacting the development opportunities for children in the early stages.
Project Goal
VIN aims to ensure overall development (mind, heart and body) of children and their preparation for the entry to primary education. By 2030, all children of 3 to 5 years of age attend ECD centres and all the centres are managed in a child friendly and creative environment.
This particular project aligns with UN sustainable goal # 3: Good Health and Well-being; 4: Quality Education; and 5: Gender Equality
Project Description
VIN has set up Early Childhood Development Education Centres in underprivileged, rural communities to give developmental opportunities to the children of aged 3-5. We develop ECD teachers and local support volunteers on creative and child friendly teaching methodologies. Our CED curriculum is designed to train children body, mind and hear which consequently helps develop motor-neuron, mental, emotional and social skills.
As of 2020, VIN’s Early Childhood Education (ECD) Project has benefitted over 7000 children from the underprivileged communities of Nepal.
