Project Description
Introduction
Youth unemployment in Nepal is a critical issue, with over 40% of young people facing difficulties in securing stable jobs. Many do not have access to quality vocational training, which leaves them unprepared for the competitive job market. Youth Vocational Skills Development Volunteering aims to equip young people with practical skills that foster sustainable employment.
As a Volunteer for Youth Vocational Training, you will help provide hands-on training in trades such as computer literacy, hospitality, tailoring, carpentry, and entrepreneurship. By joining this project, you can make a lasting impact on the lives of Nepalese youth while gaining meaningful cross-cultural experience.
Background
Nepal’s economy heavily depends on agriculture and remittances, leaving many young people with limited career options. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), around 500,000 Nepali youths enter the job market annually, but most lack employable skills. This initiative aligns with Nepal’s Youth Vision 2025, prioritizing skill-based education and vocational training.
Key Objectives
- Provide hands-on vocational training in computer skills, entrepreneurship, and technical trades.
- Increase employability for marginalized youth by equipping them with job-ready skills.
- Promote self-reliance and entrepreneurship among young people.
- Create sustainable career pathways for youth in rural and urban Nepal.
Why Volunteer for Youth Vocational Skills Development in Nepal?
The Need
- Nepal has an unemployment rate of over 11%, with youth unemployment significantly higher.
- Only 12% of Nepalese youth have access to vocational education, leaving a gap in practical skill development.
- More than 50% of Nepalese youth migrate for low-paying jobs due to lacking skills.
Global Relevance
This project supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth) by empowering young people with job skills.
