Environment and Conservation Program

VIN’s Environment and Conservation Program is designed to promote and protect the environment by raising awareness in the rural, underprivileged communities of Nepal, and by promoting sustainable agricultural, forestry, water and waste management practices. We promote agroforestry and permaculture so that farmers can preserve the forest resources and at the same time increase their production.

Current Situation

Nepal is increasingly at risk to climate change jeopardising the lives of thousands of people. Our forests are being encroached, biodiversity disappearing and natural resources are getting more and more polluted day by day. Rainfall patterns are changing leading to drought in some places and flooding in others. Landslides and soil erosions are washing away fertile lands. Excessive use of pesticides and insecticides has both decreased solid quality, and rivers waters are no longer safe to drink. Unmanaged waste disposal is creating sanitation problems and increasing the deaths caused due to communicable diseases. Additionally, without intervention and positive leadership, Nepal’s people remain ignorant of such environmental issues.

Goal

To conserve promote and protect the natural environment as well as the country’s historical & cultural heritage for future generations. By 2030, VIN aims to ensure at least 80% people in the target areas are aware about the need and importance of environment conservation and protection. Environment and Conservation Program focuses its projects under four very important SDGs:

Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

Goal 13: Climate Action

Goal 14: Life Below water

Goal 15: Life On Land

We encourage every household in our community to segregate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste products, and to convert biodegradable waste into organic matter to be used in farming.
